About Us

Betafé Sea Moss is a small entrepreneurial business operating on the shores of St Lucia located in the Caribbean Sea. We are pleased to offer our natural sea moss to the world. We harvest in the same ancient tradition of our forefathers, caring to ensure that for centuries in the future, more sea moss cultivation from the same waters will be possible. We hand select and cure our moss so that the sea salt is washed by the rain and dried by the brilliant Caribbean sun.  When the sea moss is ready, we vacuum seal your package as soon as you place an order and then ship immediately world wide to ensure you receive the freshest, healthiest product possible.

What does Betafe mean? Betafe is the Patois word for firefly. After the sun goes down, fireflies light up the local scenery in St Lucia.

What will it look like?

Betafé Sea Moss will arrive in a dried state, looking a little like pasta. You can either grind this into a powder for use in cooking and many dishes (see Recipes) or rehydrate the moss by soaking in fresh water to bring it back to its original state from the sea. Once rehydrated, you can chop in a blender or food processor and use as a thickening agent in puddings and deserts, add to beverages or cocktails or any number of delicious healthful recipes. It can also be boiled to a gel state, however most nutritionists recommend it should be eaten in its natural dried state. There is little taste so it can be easily disguised in savory or spicy dishes.

What is this sea moss?

Whether you call this Irish Moss,
Carragheen, Carrageenan, Jamaican Moss, Dulce or even Chondrus crispus, this is the real thing! Except no powders or substitutions.
